A Great Start to 2026

It’s hard to believe that 2026 is in full swing...and now as tax season approaches, a little early organization may help things feel more manageable. I think this time of year is encouraging because the days start to be longer and Spring is around the corner (although talk about a dry and mild Winter here in Colorado). It also brings a steady flow of paperwork, deadlines, and decisions, so this message is simply a supportive reminder to help you gather what you may need.
Attached is a 2026 Tax Guide for your reference as you organize. I thought I’d also include this special reminder for those ages 65+ in 2025 - “Those age 65 and older—and their spouses if filing jointly—can claim a $6,000 deduction per qualified individual per tax year between 2025–2028. If you’reage 65 and older but have an adjusted gross income that exceeds $75,000 for individual filers or $150,000 for joint filers, that additional deduction is reduced by 6% for every dollar above those income limits. This new deduction means that an individual filer in 2025 that is over age 65 and not blind who qualifies could deduct a total of $23,750 from all 3 tax deductions, and joint filers who also qualify for all 3 deductions could be eligible to deduct a total of $46,700.” * Another key strategy that I regularly utilize for clients ages 70.5 or above is a QCD (Qualified Charitable Donation). If you are charitably inclined and qualify, let's be sure to talk about this as an option for 2026 and beyond.
Remember, as tax rules shift from year to year, you may also want to consult a qualified tax professional for guidance tailored to your situation. I have relationships with tax CPAs, so if you would like their contact information, let me or Rita know. My role is to support you with general reminders, your investment-related documents, and to keep you aware of any changes that may impact your long-term financial strategy.
We are off to a good start in 2026 and I’m looking forward to a valuable year for the Hattig family, Hattig Financial, and for You and Your family. Thank you for great introductions of your friends, colleagues, or family this past year, I truly Appreciate it and have made new client relationships with Wonderful people and families.
God Bless & let’s have a really good 2026!
